What we collect
Footy Tip Jar uses Google Analytics (GA4) to collect usage data: the pages you view, your device type and browser, and your approximate location. It is tied to a random identifier stored in a Google Analytics cookie on your device, not to your name or email address. This helps us understand how the site is used and improve it.
We collect personal information only when you give it to us:
- Weekly tips email. Your email address, when you subscribe. You confirm it by email first, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Brownlow Medal form guide. See the section below.
- Cazaly Daily accounts. If you sign in to Cazaly Daily: your email address, a nickname (the part of your email before the @), whether you get the weekly tips email, and your daily results (the names you found and your score). Signing in for the first time also subscribes you to the weekly tips email unless you tick the box to opt out.
- Contact form. Your name, email address and message, which are emailed to us so we can reply.
Cazaly Daily also records a summary of each day's game (your score and the names you found, linked to a random ID kept on your device, not to your email address) to show the daily insights.
Brownlow Medal form guide
If you ask for the guide, we keep your email address, a private link code issued to you, a watermark code printed on the guide pages so a leaked copy can be traced back to its link, the date the link was issued, and a record that we emailed it to you (kept so we never send it twice).
Each time the guide link is opened, or someone tries to print it, we log the link code, the time, the IP address and your browser details (user agent). We use the log to spot a link being shared with people it was not issued to. We keep the log for 90 days, then delete it.
Once a day we search the web for exact phrases from the guide to find copies posted elsewhere. That search sends only those phrases to Google, and no subscriber details.
When you confirm your email at your link, your browser keeps a signed cookie (tj_guide_ok) for 180 days so you do not have to confirm again.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) to tell visitors apart and track sessions. They stay on your device for up to two years unless you remove them. The only other cookie is the guide cookie above, which only guide subscribers receive.
We also use your browser's localStorage to remember your preferences (such as your cookie choice) and your Cazaly Daily progress and sign-in. localStorage is not a cookie and is not sent to anyone.
Your choices
If you are in the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland, or we cannot tell where you are, we ask before Google Analytics runs. You can decline, and the site works the same without it. Elsewhere, Google Analytics runs without a prompt, and you can turn it off at any time.
Cookie settings clears your saved choice, removes the Google Analytics cookies and asks you again.
To unsubscribe from the weekly tips email, use the link in any email. Unsubscribing does not remove the Brownlow guide records above.
To see what we hold about you, or to have it deleted (your email address, Cazaly Daily account and results, and any Brownlow guide records including the view log), use the contact form, which is delivered to us by email. Write from, or give us, the email address you signed up with. We will confirm by email once it is done.
Who else receives data
These services receive your IP address and browser details when your browser or our servers contact them. We do not sell your data.
- Google Analytics (googletagmanager.com and google-analytics.com), under Google's own privacy terms. Only after you accept, or where we do not ask, as above.
- Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), which serves the site's typeface on every page load.
- Google Cloud and Firebase, which host the site, the tips data and the live scores feed.
- Cloudflare, which serves the site and runs the Cazaly Daily database. It also tells us which country a request comes from, so we know whether to ask about cookies. We do not store that country.
- Resend, which delivers our email and holds the tips mailing list.
We do not share your data with anyone else.
